National CSR Guiding Framework for Zambia
The National Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Guiding Framework for Zambia is the country's first unified national standard for responsible business conduct. Officially launched on 2nd October 2026, the Framework provides clear guidance to help businesses move from ad-hoc philanthropy to strategic, measurable Corporate Social Investment (CSI) that aligns with Zambia's development priorities. It is anchored on four pillars: Corporate Governance and Accountability, Environmental Stewardship and Climate Action, Community Engagement and Socio-Economic Development, and Human Rights and Decent Work. The Framework is deliberately aligned with Vision 2030, the Eighth National Development Plan (8NDP), and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that every kwacha invested by the private sector contributes meaningfully to national development.
While voluntary in nature, the Framework provides structure, standards, and incentives for businesses across all sectors. It encourages transparent reporting, community participation, environmental protection, and respect for human rights. By adopting this Framework, businesses can build trust, access recognition and incentives, and position themselves as true partners in building a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable Zambia. The Framework is a product of extensive multi-stakeholder consultations led by the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, with support from the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, under the ZAMNEX Programme funded by Sida and SwEPA.
